In a show of political strength and unity, the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, August 5th, at the residence of former National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to reaffirm their unwavering loyalty to his leadership and to lay the groundwork for a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, convened under the leadership of the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, brought together a broad coalition of the party’s power brokers — elected officials, party executives, former appointees, grassroots leaders, and national figures — in a clear signal that Kano APC remains firmly aligned with Ganduje as its political lodestar.
However, the absence of two of Kano’s highest-ranking federal officials — Deputy Senate President Senator Barau I. Jibrin and Minister of State for Housing, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata — did not go unnoticed. While Senator Barau was confirmed to be out of the country due to the recent passing of his mother-in-law in London, the reason behind Minister Ata’s absence remained undisclosed, fueling mild speculation among observers and party loyalists.
At the heart of the gathering was the endorsement of Dr Ganduje as the “undisputed leader of the APC in Kano State.” The communique released after the meeting praised his tenure as National Chairman, particularly his role in instituting party-wide reforms such as: The digitisation of membership through e-registration, The establishment of the Progressive Institute for party ideology and leadership grooming,
And grassroots-focused programmes targeting youth and women empowerment.
APC State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas emphasized Ganduje’s transformative role in shaping a modern, resilient APC, declaring, “Dr Ganduje remains our rallying point — a visionary who has continued to lead with strategy, intellect, and party discipline.”
The event was not merely a symbolic display of loyalty but a strategic moment of recalibration for the party’s 2027 ambitions. With the memories of the 2023 electoral loss still fresh, the Kano APC leadership made it clear that the lessons have been learned and the time for preparation is now.
“We are not waiting for 2027 to meet us unprepared. We are building from the grassroots, strengthening our internal structures, and resolving all differences. APC in Kano is still strong and united,” stated Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the 2023 APC gubernatorial candidate and current Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank. The presence of Gawuna alongside other influential party figures, including: Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, APC political strategist and former deputy gubernatorial candidate Murtala Sule Garo, And veteran legislator Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa,
In a broader national context, the gathering also lauded the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly for its developmental footprint in Northern Nigeria. Hon. Abba Kabir Bichi, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, highlighted projects worth over ₦250 billion in Kano alone, such as:The Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, Kano–Hadeja road.
