The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has taken disciplinary action against two Sharia Court registrars, Jamilu Ibrahim and Zubairu Sulaiman, for their involvement in fraudulent activities.
A statement by Baba Jibo Ibrahim, the spokesman of the Kano Judiciary, indicated that the commission made the decision during its 75th meeting on September 12, 2024.
Jamilu Ibrahim was implicated in a fraudulent scheme, where he and a syndicate were found to have received illegal funds from the sale of two plots of land. The sale was facilitated through a writ of possession that was fraudulently obtained.
The investigation committee recommended his dismissal from service. However, the Judicial Service Commission opted to suspend him indefinitely without pay, pending the outcome of the trial he is facing at the Magistrate Court.
Zubairu Sulaiman, the Registrar of the Upper Sharia Court, was also found guilty of receiving one million naira as a sales commission for the illegal sale of the plots of land. Based on the recommendation of the investigative committee, the Commission suspended him for four months without pay.
The Chief Judge of Kano, Justice Dije-Aboki, reaffirmed that the judiciary remains committed to enforcing strict measures against any judicial staff involved in misconduct to maintain the integrity of the judicial system and uphold public confidence.
