Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch Commends Nigerian Army for Reopening Inele–Ugoh–Eti-Eke–Okugo–Ogugu Bypass
The Kogi East Neighbourhood Watch (KENW) has expressed delight over the reopening of the Inele–Ugoh–Eti-Eke–Okugo–Ogugu bypass on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, commending the Nigerian Army for its timely and decisive intervention.
In a statement, KENW praised the Commander, 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Lokoja, for his swift response after receiving reports that the strategic road had remained closed for over a year due to incessant kidnapping of commuters. According to the group, the Commander promptly assessed the situation and took immediate steps that led to the speedy reopening of the bypass.
The decision to reopen the road has been warmly received by stakeholders and residents of the communities along the corridor, who described the development as a major relief and a boost to socio-economic activities in the area.
Speaking on the development, the President of the Ogugu Community Development Union, Mr. Samuel Agada—whose community is the major host of the bypass—alongside Hon. ThankGod Moses, President of the Inele Community Development Association, said the communities have been mobilised to support the reopening.
They noted that the exercise was marked with enthusiasm and pageantry, adding that the communities have also committed to providing community policing support to complement the Army’s presence and efforts in the area.
KENW described the reopening of the bypass as a significant milestone, noting that the road had been shut for about one year due to persistent attacks on travellers. Road users were seen rejoicing as they resumed using the route, pouring encomiums on the Nigerian Army for its relentless efforts in securing communities across Kogi State.

further applauded the Nigerian Army for its determination to flush out kidnappers operating along the corridor and to restore confidence among travellers. According to KENW, the bypass is a vital link not only for local users but also for travellers accessing the South-South and South-East regions of the country.
