KOGI POLICE COMMENCES FULL INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEATH OF REV. FR. SAMUEL OPEYEMI

The Kogi State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that a comprehensive investigation has commenced into the death of Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi, whose lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday, 29th July, 2026, in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives promptly mobilized to the scene where the body was recovered and evacuated to the hospital. A medical doctor certified the victim dead, after which the body was deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The deceased was subsequently identified as Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi of St. Paul Parish, Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area.

In view of the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough, discreet, and professional investigation aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the incident, identifying all persons connected with the crime, and ensuring that those found culpable are brought to justice.

The Kogi State Police Command appeals to members of the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation or the dissemination of unverified information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation.

The Kogi State Police Command remains fully committed to uncovering the truth behind this unfortunate incident. Investigators are actively pursuing all available leads, and the Kogi State Police Command will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses.

The Kogi State Police Command assures the family of the deceased, the Catholic faithful, and the general public that no effort will be spared in ensuring that justice is served.
