Kogi Police Intercept 339 Wraps of Suspected Indian Hemp in Kabba, Arrest Two
Operatives of the Kabba Area Command have intercepted 339 wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and arrested two men during a routine stop-and-search operation in Kogi State.
Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, disclosed this at a press briefing on May 9, 2026.
He said the interception followed intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention measures by the Command.
According to Kankarofi, officers on duty intercepted a Honda Pilot Jeep with registration number LSD 456 GE around 2:00 p.m. The vehicle was driven by 52-year-old Chris Amos, with Bilat Joseph as the passenger.
A search of the vehicle revealed the wraps of suspected narcotics concealed inside. Preliminary investigation showed the suspects collected the consignment in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on the instruction of an individual known only as “Alhaji,” whose identity is still under investigation.
The suspects told police the drugs were meant for delivery in Yola, Adamawa State. Both remain in custody as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of the alleged network.
Kankarofi said illicit drug trafficking remains a major driver of violent crime and that the Command will sustain aggressive operations to dismantle criminal syndicates and curb the movement of narcotics through Kogi.
He thanked the Inspector-General of Police for strategic support, the Kogi State Governor for backing security operations, and members of the public for providing credible information that aided the operation.
The CP urged residents to keep cooperating with security agencies to protect lives and property across the state.
