Kogi State Government Urged to Protect Media Institutions After Prime FM Vandalization
The Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR) has condemned the recent attack and vandalization of Prime FM radio station in Kogi State, describing the incident as “worrisome and condemnable.”
The organization expressed deep concern over the neglect of media institutions in the state, citing the example of Grace FM in Lokoja, which has been off-air for several months without intervention from the state government.
In a statement signed by Idris Miliki Abdul, Executive Director of CHRCR, the organization called on security agencies to investigate the vandalization of Prime FM equipment and bring the perpetrators to justice.
CHRCR also urged the Kogi State Government to provide resources to media institutions, both public and private, to support their operations.
While acknowledging the state government’s efforts in curbing security challenges, CHRCR emphasized the need for stakeholder partnerships in preventing and countering violent extremism in the state.
The organization commiserated with the staff, management, and the entire media community over the incident and urged the Minister for Information to visit the Prime FM premises to assess the damage and losses.
Furthermore, CHRCR called on the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to relocate Prime FM from its current location to ensure better service delivery and safety for staff and equipment.
The CHRCR’s statement highlights the need for the Kogi State Government to prioritize the protection and support of media institutions in the state.
