Kogi State Govt Seeks More Partnership With NEMA for Improved Interventions

Kogi State Government has called for better collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to deliver more needed interventions to the people of the state.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo made the appeal while addressing the head and management staff of Abuja Operational Office of NEMA in his office, today, in Lokoja.

Represented by the Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo congratulated the Head of the Abuja Operational Office of NEMA, Mr. Abubakar Zekeri, for his appointment, wishing him a productive service to the Nation.

Governor Ododo noted that Emergency Management coordinated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in synergy with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) along with other stake holders have been effective in the delivery of the needed interventions to the people of Kogi State.

He highlighted some of the interventions conducted in the state for the year 2024, which included delivery of the federal government grain palliatives, interventions in Omala, Dekina, Lokoja, Kogi local government Area respectively.

According to him, interventions to communal crisis, rain storm disaster and fire disaster necessitated the introduction of pilot program on women volunteer disaster risk reduction management to educate women in the nine prone areas against flood and other disasters.

Governor Ododo maintained that the advance new direction government takes the cause of disaster management in the state seriously, as it is the first responder to disaster in the state. He revealed that the government recently released over thirty four million Naira as compensation to victims of fire disaster of GSM Village opposite Jaiz Bank Lokoja.

Earlier in his remark, the Director, NEMA Abuja Operational Office, Mr. Abubakar Zekeri, said they were in the state to farmilarise with the Governor and seek collaboration with Kogi State for improved interventions.

According to him, they intend to identify spot areas in the state to proactively attend to them to avert further disaster.

On his part, the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Atima Muktar commended the National Emergency Management Agency for their visit. He described Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy Joel Salifu as humane and passionate leaders dedicated to the development of the state.
