My priority is to develop Yagba land not how to win the next election – Rep. Leke Abejide
The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency and House Committee Chairman on Nigeria Customs and Excise, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has re-emphasized his commitment and determination to focus more on developing the constituency in the next two years, pointing out that it is not time to play politics but to provide leadership that will engender development of the area.
The Alu community born astute politician disclosed this in a chat with Democracy Newsline Newspaper at the sideline of the well attended one year anniversary of Governor Usman Ododo held in Lokoja yesterday.
According to him, it is not time for politics rather the current mandate freely given to him by Yagba people is still valid till June in 2027, hence what is important now is how to facilitate projects that will have direct impact positively to enhance the socio- economic status of the people who have consistent beliefs in his representation.
He said the era of middle men in Yagba politics is gone, that anyone claiming ownership of the Constituency is only playing God, stressing that going forward he prefers to be dealing with the people directly so that they will not be shortchanged in the process.
He noted with nostalgia that at appropriate time issues of whether or not he will run for another term in the House of Representatives will be determined by the people whose responsibility it is to decide on who to represent them at any levels and time.
“I am determined to develop my people any time the opportunity provides itself, whether or not I will abandon ADC, like you know all my leaders are in APC, indirectly I am part of the APC but if it becomes necessary to officially join, at the appropriate time, we will follow the directive of the people of Yagba”
He further said he has mobilized a contractor that will construct the town hall road in Isanlu which will be commissioned in April during the 2025 Isanlu day. He pointed out that he has more than enough projects in Isanlu axis, and promised to complement the ongoing hospital project in his community in Oke Oyi.
“Politics has become too expensive in Yagba land considering the huge amount required in politics especially in meeting up the needs of the people”
