In a poignant tribute to the late Etsu Abu Ali Mopah III of Bassa Nge Kingdom, the Nupe Natives of Lokoja Development Union swapped cultural festivities for a free medical outreach in Lokoja, on December 27.
The medical outreach was organised by the union, in partnership with CAMPDAVID Community Development Organization, offering blood pressure and blood sugar screenings to the public.
The event was part of the union’s end-of-year program, initially planned as a cultural fiesta but redirected to support community health following the passing of Etsu Bassa Nge Kingdom’s leader.
Despite minimal publicity, the outreach drew significant participation, with attendees receiving counseling on health status awareness and further medical consultation.
The initiative screened 60 residents for blood pressure and sugar levels, identifying high blood pressure in 70 per cent and high blood sugar in 15 per cent of participants.
The National President of the Union, Alh. Abdullahi Ndashitte Abubakar, emphasised prevention, accessibility, and empowerment, partnering with CAMPDAVID Community Development Organisation.
“In respect for Etsu Abu Ali Mopah III, we’re gifting our people a Free Medical Outreach focusing on Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Level.
“Quality healthcare is a right, not a luxury. We’re bringing care to your doorstep for:
“Prevention-Catching silent health issues; Accessibility- Removing cost and distance barriers; and Empowerment-Knowledge for healthier lives,” he said.
He commended CAMPDAVID and volunteers for the support, saying, “Health is our greatest wealth – seize this opportunity”.
Abubakar assured the union would plan for quarterly outreaches in 2026, seeking collaborations to expand impact.
“We’ll make this outreach quarterly in 2026 with broader scope. We need your support to touch more lives.
“Join our Free Community Based Medical Outreach Initiative. Together, we can make a difference,” he said.
The Etsu Lokoja, HRH Emmanuel Akamisoko Dauda Shelika – Nyamkpa IV, praised the medical personnel and participants, emphasising that “Health is Wealth”.
The monarch promised his full support for the union as it plans to integrate medical outreach into future programs, building on the event’s success.
Beneficiaries including Mall. Husseini Nasir and Sam Ayeace, praised Nupe Natives for the free medical outreach to Lokoja residents.
“The benefit of bringing medical exams to the grassroots can’t be overstated. We pray for more of this selfless service,” Nasiru said.
Ayeace said: “The outreach was a resounding success, touching lives and transforming communities!
“A beacon of hope showing collective care and commitment to healthcare access. Thanks, Nupe Natives of Lokoja, for this end-of-year gift”.
