Open letter to Mr President Ahmed Bola Tinubu,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I write to you today as a concerned citizen of Nigeria, compelled to voice the sentiments and frustrations of many fellow Nigerians, particularly from Northern Nigeria.
Over recent months, a growing disillusionment has taken hold among the populace, especially regarding the leadership and policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It is with a heavy heart that I must acknowledge the widespread belief that the APC, under your administration, has faltered significantly in addressing the critical issues plaguing our nation.
1. Corruption:
Despite initial promises to tackle corruption head-on, it seems that progress in this regard has been minimal. The persistence of corrupt practices within various levels of government continues to erode public trust and undermine the effectiveness of governance. We urge you to reinvigorate efforts to combat corruption and ensure that those who engage in such activities are held accountable.
2. Insecurity:
The security situation in Nigeria, particularly in the North, remains dire. Communities continue to live in fear due to the activities of insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements. The lack of a decisive and effective response has left many feeling abandoned and hopeless. A comprehensive strategy to restore peace and security is urgently needed.
3. Hunger and Unemployment:
The twin challenges of hunger and unemployment are causing untold suffering across the country. Many families struggle to make ends meet, and the lack of job opportunities for our youth is exacerbating the situation. Concrete actions to stimulate economic growth and create jobs are essential to alleviate these hardships.
4. Removal of Fuel Subsidy and Increase in Electricity Bills:
The removal of the fuel subsidy and the increase in electricity tariffs have placed an additional burden on ordinary Nigerians. While we understand the need for economic reforms, these measures have led to increased costs of living, making it harder for many to afford basic necessities. We call for a reevaluation of these policies to find a balance that considers the well-being of the populace.
5. Signing of the Samoa Agreement:
The recent signing of the Samoa Agreement has sparked considerable debate and concern. Many feel that the implications of this agreement have not been fully communicated or considered, leading to fears about its potential impact on our sovereignty and national interests. We urge you to provide clarity on this matter and ensure that any international commitments align with the aspirations and welfare of Nigerians.
6. The Future of APC and 2027 Handover:
The current trajectory of the APC has led to significant disenchantment among its supporters, particularly in Northern Nigeria. The party’s failure to address these pressing issues effectively has resulted in a loss of confidence. Looking ahead to 2027, it is imperative that your administration takes bold and decisive actions to restore faith in the party and its leadership.
In conclusion, Mr. President, the challenges we face are daunting, but not insurmountable. The people of Nigeria yearn for a leadership that listens, responds, and acts in their best interests. We implore you to take these concerns seriously and to work diligently to address them. The future of our nation depends on it.
Respectfully,
Hon. Bala Salihu Dawakin kudu
