The Provost of Kubwa College of Health Sciences and Technology, Dr. Yakubu Elhassan, has urged matriculants and graduands of the institution to uphold discipline, maintain professional ethics, and remain worthy ambassadors of the college.
The charge formed part of his opening remarks at a combined academic ceremony featuring matriculation, induction, and convocation, held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the college premises on Arab Road, Kubwa, in the Federal Capital Territory.
Dr. Elhassan emphasized the significance of the ceremony, describing it as a celebration of excellence, perseverance, and institutional growth. He noted that the event symbolized the institution’s commitment to producing competent health professionals who will add meaningful value to healthcare delivery, research, and community service.
He commended the graduands for their diligence and endurance throughout their rigorous academic and clinical training.
“You leave here not just with certificates, but with responsibilities to serve humanity with skills and compassion,” he said.
“To those being inducted, today you cross the bridge from training to professional practice. The oath you take binds you to integrity, accountability, and excellence in service.”
The Provost also expressed delight over a book authored by a staff member of the college, describing the academic publication as evidence that the institution not only trains professionals but also contributes to knowledge, research, and intellectual development in the health sector. He praised the staff, parents, and partners for their dedication, sacrifice, and guidance, while commending the students for making the college proud.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Adeboh Ahmed Yakubu of the Federal Capital Territory Department of Higher Education applauded the college management for its unwavering commitment and dedication, which he said had led to the rapid transformation of the institution. He urged them to sustain the momentum.
He further stated that as a regulatory agency, the department would continue to support and encourage lawful initiatives aimed at widening access to education in the Federal Capital Territory, noting that the government alone cannot meet the enrollment demands of citizens.
Speaking on the inspiration behind his book, A Guide to Public Health and Practice, the Registrar of the College, Dr. Suleiman Muhammed Musa, explained that the need for proper understanding of the significance, scope, and concepts of health prevention, promotion, and curative care motivated the publication.
He added that his humanitarian disposition also inspired the book, stressing that the public has witnessed numerous deaths due to ignorance about public health, especially during pandemics. According to him, the book will provide both health practitioners and the general public with essential knowledge during disease outbreaks.
In another goodwill message, Dr. Sidi Muhammed congratulated the graduands and inductees on their achievements and urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the college in their professional conduct. He noted that the institution’s reputation would largely depend on their behavior in practice.
He emphasized that public health has gained global attention over the years due to its preventive role in safeguarding community health, and he encouraged the matriculants to prioritize their studies.
Delivering a thought-provoking lecture on the role of public health professionals in healthcare delivery, the keynote speaker, Dr. Rifkatu Aaron Solomon (PhD), traced the religious foundations of public health, referencing both the Bible and the Qur’an, and highlighted how the discipline has impacted humanity over centuries.
She stressed that the role of public health professionals cannot be overemphasized, describing them as the first line of defense during epidemics. According to her, they educate the public on preventive measures, particularly in cases of communicable diseases.
