In light of the recent public statements made by Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, it is imperative to set the record straight and address the serious misrepresentations coming from the current administration.
The claim that the previous administration under His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was negligent in managing public resources is not only baseless but a deliberate attempt to rewrite history. Contrary to Governor Abba’s assertions, the Ganduje administration demonstrated fiscal discipline and a steadfast commitment to transparency, which resulted in significant infrastructural development and socio-economic progress for Kano State.
The allegations of appointing over 128 unnecessary tax advisors, cited as evidence of mismanagement, must be scrutinized carefully. Such appointments were made to strengthen the state’s revenue generation machinery, ensuring Kano remains financially viable and able to meet its obligations to its people.
Regarding the accusations of diverting public funds, it is disheartening that Governor Abba seeks to distract the public by portraying his administration as a beacon of financial prudence while his own government faces serious corruption allegations currently pending in court. The destruction of properties at Kantin Kwari, a blatant act of lawlessness, is conveniently downplayed as a trivial issue. This administration cannot erase such damaging events by merely making populist statements during ceremonies like the recent distribution of BESDA teachers’ appointment letters.
Governor Abba’s claim that his administration has revived the state’s economy ignores the harsh realities on the ground, where economic hardship persists, and development projects initiated by the previous government remain incomplete or abandoned.
Furthermore, while congratulating any progress in the 2025 NECO examinations, it is essential to acknowledge that education in Kano was built on solid foundations laid during the Ganduje era through consistent investment and reforms.
The people of Kano deserve truthful, accountable governance, not misleading rhetoric designed to mask failures and distract from pressing issues. We urge Governor Abba to focus on delivering tangible results rather than indulging in unfounded accusations against a government that left behind a legacy of progress and hope.
