CP DANTAWAYE HOLDS STRATEGIC CONFERENCE WITH SENIOR OFFICERS, REINFORCES OPERATIONAL ETHICS, SECURITY VIGILANCE, AND COMMENDS GALLANT CONDUCT
In a renewed effort to boost morale, deepen ethical consciousness, and reinforce professionalism within the Force, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, convened a strategic engagement with senior officers during the monthly conference at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
The interactive session featured a special lecture on attitudinal change by Dr Joseph Danley, a resource person from the Foundation for Correction of Moral Decadence (FCMD), an organization focused on moral reformation, patriotism, and personal discipline among security personnel. The FCMD initiative aims to realign law enforcement officers with core values such as fear of the Creator, national service, moral uprightness, unity, and mental wellness.
The guest speaker further disclosed that FCMD program enhances productivity, builds harmonious relationships among colleagues and families, and promotes peace of mind especially vital for those nearing retirement. He emphasized that adherence to the FCMD principles can help prevent stress-related ailments, such as cardiac arrest, and renew officers’ commitment to civic responsibilities with passion and fulfillment. Stressing that it reawakens conscience, fosters national rebirth, and contributes to building a better Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police emphasized on critical operational matters. He highlighted on security situation in the state, calling for heightened vigilance among officers and members of the public alike. The CP urged officers to intensify the Stop and Search operations and then cautioned residents to be mindful of their movements, especially in high risk areas.
The CP further engaged on the issue of drug abuse, noting its direct link to the rise in criminal activities. Noting that drug abuse is one of the push factor for the commission of crime. The CP tasked all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to convene stakeholders’ meetings within their area of jurisdictions to foster community collaboration and intelligence sharing.
He further disclosed on the issue of justice and procedural conduct, the CP reminded officers to respect judicial officers, including lawyers and magistrates. He stressed the importance of evidence-based investigations, citing that many cases are dismissed in court due to a lack of solid proof even when the cases are genuine. Officers were also warned against unlawful arrests and the arbitrary impounding of vehicles, urging swift and lawful resolution of such incidents.
The CP also relayed the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who cautioned all officers to handle pension related concerns responsibly and avoid using social media to air internal grievances. He further disclosed that IGP has paid off all outstanding claims for Officers who died in active service which is commendable. Additionally, he cautioned that IGP has warn on no account should Police officers get involved in land disputes, emphasizing strict professional boundaries.
In a moment of commendation, the CP presented a Certificate of commendation for Gallantry to an Inspector Gimba Andrew attached to Department of operations who recently displayed exceptional bravery in the line of duty. The Inspector was attacked by four men who invaded the bank premises in an attempt to dispose him of his rifle, where he engaged them and naturalized one while others fled. The recognition was met with applause and served as a motivation for others to uphold courage and integrity in service.
The day concluded with reaffirmation of the Command’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and collaborative policing for a safer and and secured Kogi State.
