In a remarkable act of generosity, Senator Garba Musa Mai Doki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, has taken swift action to address the dire needs of Mahuta General Hospital, located in Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State. His intervention brought much-needed relief to the hospital and the residents of Mahuta, who had been grappling with a crumbling healthcare system.
Hajiya Lubabatu Yusif Mahuta, a respected community leader, disclosed to Democracy Newsline Newspaper the critical state of the hospital. According to her, the hospital faced a severe shortage of mattresses, leaving many patients to endure the discomfort of empty beds. Additionally, the roofing of the hospital was extensively damaged during the rainy season, exposing patients and staff to harsh weather conditions.
Recognizing the urgent need, Senator Garba Musa Mai Doki stepped in with a donation of 50 mattresses and two bundles of roofing sheets, accompanied by funds to cover labor costs for the roof’s repair. The Senator’s intervention was both timely and heartfelt, earning him praise from the community.
“Senator Garba Musa Mai Doki has shown true compassion and dedication to the welfare of our people. The situation in the hospital was becoming unbearable, but his swift action has given us hope,” Hajiya Lubabatu stated.
The Senator urged the hospital management to replace the damaged roof immediately, ensuring a safer environment for patients and staff. However, his noble gesture faced unexpected resistance.
In a disheartening turn of events, the Chief Medical Director of Mahuta General Hospital, Dr. Rambo, reportedly refused to accept the donated materials. This decision, allegedly made under instructions from Fakai Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Muhammad S. Fawa, was met with widespread criticism.
An investigation by Democracy Newsline revealed that the directive to reject the materials may have come from the Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, popularly known as “Mr. Project.” The Governor’s alleged involvement in blocking the donation has sparked outrage among the people of Fakai Local Government Area, who question his commitment to development and his moniker as “Mr. Project.”
Adding to the controversy, it was uncovered that residents of Fakai Local Government had contributed over ₦1,879,000 to purchase mattresses and roofing sheets for the hospital. To their surprise, Senator Garba Musa Mai Doki’s intervention rendered their fundraising efforts unnecessary, yet the materials were still rejected.
Malam Jibrin Ibrahim, a resident of Mahuta, expressed his disappointment in an interview. “We are deeply disheartened by the Governor’s actions. If he truly values development and his nickname ‘Mr. Project,’ why would he prevent the hospital from receiving these materials? This is a betrayal of the people’s trust.”
The people of Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area have called on the Kebbi State Government to set aside political differences and prioritize the welfare of the citizens. They urge Governor Nasir Idris to live up to his reputation as a champion of development by allowing the hospital to benefit from the Senator’s donation.
Senator Garba Musa Mai Doki’s humanitarian effort stands as a shining example of leadership that prioritizes people over politics. His commitment to alleviating the suffering of his constituents underscores the essence of public service.
The question now remains: will the state government rise above political rivalry to support this act of kindness, or will the people of Mahuta continue to bear the brunt of misplaced priorities? Only time will tell.
The Governor is accused of undermining the Senator’s efforts, possibly due to political rivalry.
Leaders at all levels should recognize that health and welfare are nonpartisan. Collaborative efforts should be encouraged, with credit given where due, regardless of political affiliations.
