Senator Karimi Shows Empathy: Donates Food and Cash to Support Students During Exams
The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Steve Karimi, has demonstrated empathy as part of his educational support program by donating food items and cash support to the National Association of Okun Students (NAOS) of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. At the distribution of the food items in Felele, Lokoja, on Friday, 16th January, 2026, the lawmaker, who showed empathy and responsibility towards citizens, including students, delivered 10 bags of 50KG rice, 20 packs of Indomie, and Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) cash to ease the burden and pressure experienced by students during this first semester examinations period.
Acknowledging the importance of education as a critical aspect of development, the Senator noted that the token would assist the students in no small measure during their examinations, thereby improving their performance and outputs. Representing the Senator were Mrs. Oluremi Orebiyi and Comrade Abiodun Anjorin, who admonished the students to sustain and uphold the standards known for Okun in education and literacy.
In their words, “Okun has no other major trade than education. It is your responsibility to sustain and guard this trade jealously by demonstrating in your exams the standards known of Okun people and by coming out in flying colors in your results.” The Senator, who was once a teacher, is aware of the pressure and difficulties faced by students during examination periods, especially in January, and has come up with this token to show that he is also aware and in tune with happenings everywhere in his senatorial district.
“The Senator has, in his usual magnanimity, shown empathy by sending 10 bags of 50KG rice, 20 packs of Indomie, and a token of N500,000 to assist you, the students in your examinations. Also, don’t forget that the Senator, who gave a bursary of over N100,000,000 to 1,000 students in public tertiary institutions in Nigeria in 2024, is also giving, in collaboration with the Tinubu Support Group, 3,000 students of Kogi State in public tertiary institutions a bursary of N300,000,000, and in a fortnight, beneficiaries will start getting paid.”
Reacting to the gesture, Comrade Babatunde Folorunsho appreciated the Senator for his large heart and continuous shows of empathy towards the students’ constituency. He prayed for more victories, more wins, and greater achievements, as he encouraged the Senator never to waver in the path he has chosen, especially with education and students.
Senator Sunday Karimi has not only demonstrated his commitment to education but has also set a precedent for future investments in the academic sector. This is what true leadership looks like – providing opportunities for our students to thrive and encouraging them in the process, which the Senator has always stood for.
