The Kogi State Ministry of Education says the era of dispassionate charges of levies in schools in the State is over.
The State Commissioner For Education, Hon. Wemi Jones made the disclosure in a meeting with Principals of Public Schools, ASSUS, ANCOPS and PTA in the State held at the Government House Lokoja.
Hon. Wemi Jones said the State is lucky to have Gov. Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo who has been groomed to take over from former Gov. Alhaji Yahaya Bello assured that the Governor is committed to taking education back to it previous glory.
Hon. Jones described Gov. Ododo as one who is resolved to continue to ensure that the State surpasses the expectations of citizens of Kogi State in the areas of education.
The Commissioner disclosed that the present administration is soon to organized a broad based education summit before the end of year towards ensuring that education takes it rightful place in the socio economic sector of the State.
The Commissioner disclosed that his Ministry is resolved to continue to sustain the monitoring of schools with the setting up of a team to monitor and visit schools towards ensuring standards.
The Commissioner pointed out that sanctions will not only be metted out to teachers alone but on Principals who try to circumvent the education laws enacted in 2020.
The Commissioner disclosed that the State has made it a law for the payment for school internal and external examination, said it would not only alleviate the pain on parents, but that schools in the State will be the best for teaching and learning.
The target of the State Government according to the Commissioner is to make the State the best in Nigeria in terms of education, pointing out that no stone would be left unturned in the repositioning of schools in the State.
The State Ministry of Education, the Commissioner noted has gotting approval to get more teachers, said presently the Ministry is carrying out biometric capturing of teachers and students in schools.
The monitoring of schools using digital technology as well as motivating teachers in terms of salaries, training and retraining is ongoing, assured that the renovation and equipping of dilapidated schools, libraries and laboratory will receive priority in the present administration under Gov. Ododo.
The Commissioner encouraged teachers and principals to be ICT compliance as well as to familiarize themselves with ICT.
The Commissioner Listed the education law enacted 2020, the movement of the State education budget to 30%, the highest in the country, approval to recruit about 3879 teachers, the payment of examination fees for internal and external paid for by the last administration and made as a law as some major achievements of the last administration in the education sector.
