Tinubu Support Groups Ask President to Intervene, Demand APC Recognize Karimi as Kogi West Primary Winner
Support groups loyal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the 19 Northern States have urged the President to direct the All Progressives Congress, APC, leadership to uphold the outcome of the Kogi West Senatorial Primary and recognize Senator Sunday Steven Karimi as the rightful winner.
The call was contained in a press statement issued by the Sunday Steven Karimi Progressive Movement and signed by its Coordinator, Hon. Abdulganiyu Abdullahi.
Abdullahi said he joined seven other Tinubu support groups from the Northern region to make the appeal, arguing that respecting the primary result was critical to APC’s credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and urge the APC leadership to recognize Distinguished Senator Sunday Steven Karimi as the rightful winner of the Kogi West Senatorial Primary,” the statement read.
He stressed that the party must now prove its commitment to internal democracy and trustworthiness. “The time has come for us to prove to other political parties that the APC is a faithful, sincere, and trustworthy party. This is the only way we can continue to campaign to our people and earn their trust ahead of the general election,” he said.
Abdullahi added that transparency in the process would also reassure young Nigerians about the sincerity of their leaders. “In Abuja and across the country, we must demonstrate transparency to our youth so they can see that our leaders are sincere. Please, APC leadership, let this be the moment we show integrity in all we do, so we can take Nigeria to the next level,” he stated.
The group maintained that Senator Karimi contested and won the Kogi West APC Senatorial Primary. It therefore urged the party to “stand by the results and ensure that the mandate of the people is not transferred to anyone who did not participate in the contest.”
The statement ended with a prayer for the nation: “God bless Nigeria.”
The demand adds to ongoing conversations within APC over primary election outcomes in several states as the party consolidates ahead of 2027.
