TRIUMPHANT VISIT OF MINISTER OF STEEL DEVELOPMENT TO PRIVATE STEEL COMPANIES IN LAGOS AND OGUN STATES.

In a bold move to reposition Nigeria’s steel sector for industrial growth and economic sustainability, the Honourable Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, undertook a strategic working visit to key private steel companies in Lagos and Ogun States between April 22 and 25, 2025.
The Minister’s four-day tour underscored the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to revitalizing the steel industry by fostering public-private partnerships, enhancing local production capacity, and addressing sector-wide challenges.
At each stop, Prince Audu engaged directly with industry stakeholders, plant managers, and technical teams to assess operational capacity, safety standards, and infrastructure needs. The visits also provided a platform for robust discussions on the role of government in creating an enabling environment for steel manufacturing to thrive.
Among the companies visited were major players in the steel value chain, where the Honourable Minister conducted on-site inspections and held roundtable sessions with company executives. Key issues discussed included the need for increased local investment, improved infrastructure, job creation, and policy reforms to support sustainable growth.
The imports of the visit includes, an on-the-ground assessment of production lines and compliance with safety protocols, stakeholder engagements focused on government incentives and industrial reforms, identification of transportation and logistics challenges hindering optimal productivity and a strong advocacy for local sourcing of raw materials and strict adherence to quality standards
The visit of the Honourable Minister underscores the Federal Government’s unwavering resolve to position the steel sector as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrialization agenda. With the reforms of the Tinubu administration, Nigeria has the potential to become a regional hub for steel production and export.
This visit is not just symbolic it is a signal to all stakeholders that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his renewed agenda is ready to work hand-in-hand with the private sector to unlock the full potential of our steel industr in the country
Industry leaders lauded the visit as timely and reassuring, noting that it demonstrates the government’s proactive approach to policy implementation and sector engagement.
As Nigeria seeks to diversify its economy and reduce dependence on imports, the steel industry remains a critical pillar in the drive toward sustainable development and self-reliance.
