UNILORIN allays fears of 2025 Medical Graduands

The Management of the University of Ilorin has described as unfounded rumours making the round that the 44 Medical graduands that completed their studies last year but who could not be inducted into the medical profession that time would be lumped with this year’s graduating set for induction.
This clarification came on the heels of trending X messages (formerly Tweeter) insinuating that the University is planning to conduct the induction of the remaining graduands alongside those that would be completing their MB,BS programme this year.

Speaking on behalf of the Management, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. Biodun Suleiman Alabi, said that “what happened was that 194 students sat for the final MB,BS examinations out of whom 175 passed outrightly while 19 had resits. We approached the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to come and induct them. But we were reminded that they could only induct 150, which is our approved quota. We were told to rank them and the first 150 of the 170 were inducted in November last year. Even though there was a pronouncement by the Federal Government that the quota for Medical students’ admission would be doubled, that is yet to be implemented. We were assured that the remaining 25 that passed and the other 19 that had resit exams would be inducted at a later date.”
“Since that time, we have interacted with the MDCN several times to solicit that the remaining graduands be inducted. This advocacy is still ongoing but we don’t have any headway yet.
“So, the rumour in the social media that the MDCN said that the 25 that were not inducted in November 2025 and the 19 that passed their Resit examinations in January 2026 would be added to the set that will graduate this year, is unfounded and we don’t know where they are getting the information from.
“I want to appeal to parents and their wards to be patient, as the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, and the management team are working assiduously to ensure that the remaining 44 are inducted soon.
“Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor has directed that we should set machinery in motion to invite MDCN to come and reaccredited our Medicine and Surgery programme so that our quota would be increased from the present 150. With that, we would be able to have a higher carrying capacity.”
