Yagba Defenders Unite Against Rotation Call, Reaffirm Support for Hon. Leke Abejide’s Proven Leadership •…
Says Rotation distracts from the real issue, performance and progress •…“Hon. Leke Abejide’s leadership is defined by results, not political manipulation.”- Owah
In a united front, the Yagba Defenders of Progress and Continuity have strongly rejected the recent call by Comr. Ekundayo Solomon Aluko of the Yagba Youth Liberty Movement, which urged Hon. Leke Abejide, the current House of Representatives member for Yagba Federal Constituency, to step aside for a rotational leadership arrangement.
The group in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, described the call as an attempt to undermine Abejide’s exceptional record of service and a distraction from the core issues that matter to the people of Yagba.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. David Owah, Convener of Yagba Defenders, emphasized that the push for rotation is a politically motivated strategy aimed at deflecting attention from the true measure of leadership, performance and results. Owah pointed out that Hon. Abejide has consistently won his elections not because of a rotational arrangement, but due to his competence, hard work, and the trust he has built with the electorate. “Rotation is often used as an excuse by those who lack the capacity to compete based on merit.
Hon. Abejide has proven time and again that his victories are earned through his ability to serve the people of Yagba, not through pre-arranged systems.” He said. Rejecting claims that age should be a determining factor in leadership, Owah explained that Hon. Abejide, still in his early fifties, is younger than many of the socalled “youth leaders” in the political space. “Leadership is not about age; it’s about vision, capacity, and the ability to bring about meaningful change,” he stated.
Owah further highlighted Abejide’s achievements, including his role as the House Committee Chairman on Customs and his instrumental work in securing a multibillion Naira Customs Hospital project at Oke Oyi. He stressed that these accomplishments demonstrate the tangible impact of Abejide’s leadership. According to the statement, “If Hon. Abejide had failed to deliver, then a call for change would be warranted. But that is not the case. His leadership is defined by results, not political manipulation.”
The group, however urged Aluko and his supporters to focus on the real issues facing Yagba and refrain from promoting divisive and distracting political rhetoric.
They further called for an ongoing focus on development and progress for the people of Yagba. “Yagba deserves progress, not political distractions. Let the people decide through the democratic process.” He added.
