₦70,000 MONTHLY TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE: MR. PRESIDENT, STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORKERS ALSO DESERVE CONSIDERATION!
The reported approval of a ₦70,000 monthly transport allowance for Federal Government public servants for six months, beginning November 2026, is a welcome intervention and a step towards addressing the economic challenges confronting Nigerian workers. However, the question that demands urgent national attention is: What about workers in the 36 states and 774 local government areas of Nigeria?
Mr. President, Nigeria does not belong to federal workers alone! State government employees and local government workers are equally Nigerians. They commute daily, feed their families, pay school fees, battle rising transportation costs and struggle under the same harsh economic realities confronting their counterparts in the Federal Civil Service.
Why should an intervention designed to cushion economic hardship appear to favour one category of public servants while millions of other Nigerian workers continue to face the same financial pressure?
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and the National Working Committee (NWC) must look beyond federal establishments and consider the welfare of every Nigerian worker, irrespective of their level of government.
Economic hardship has no boundary, and the burden of inflation does not discriminate between federal, state and local government employees.
We therefore call on Mr. President to extend this transport intervention to state and local government workers through appropriate engagement and collaboration with state governors and local government authorities.
The Nigerian worker deserves dignity, fairness and economic protection. No category of workers should be abandoned in the struggle against rising living costs.
GOOD GOVERNANCE MUST BE INCLUSIVE. WORKERS’ WELFARE MUST BE UNIVERSAL. AND NO NIGERIAN WORKER SHOULD BE LEFT BEHIND!
