Significance of Mina to Muslim Pilgrims
Mina holds significant importance for Muslim pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage. It’s where pilgrims spend the first day of the Hajj, performing ritual prayers and staying overnight. Mina is also the location where the stoning of the Jamarat (three stone pillars) takes place, a ritual symbolizing the rejection of evil and temptation. It’s a key part of the Hajj journey, marking the start of the pilgrimage and the commencement
MOUNT ARAFAT
Similarly, Mount Arafat holds immense significance for Muslim pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage, as it’s the place where the rite of Wuquf (standing) is performed, which is considered the most important pillar of Hajj. It’s believed to be where Prophet Muhammad delivered his Farewell Sermon. Pilgrims gather there to seek forgiveness, pray, and reflect on their sins, making it a pivotal moment in their spiritual journey.
At Muzdalifah, during the Hajj pilgrimage, pilgrims perform the Maghrib and Isha prayers together, shorten the Isha prayer, collect pebbles for the stoning ritual, and stay the night in the designated area before heading to Mina. They also engage in dhikr, supplications, and takbir (saying “Allahu Akbar”).
DETAILED ACTIVITIES AT MUZDALIFAH
PRAYERS:
Pilgrims combine the Maghrib and Isha prayers in Muzdalifah, shortening the Isha prayer from four to two rak’ahs (units of prayer).
COLLECT PEBBLES:
They collect pebbles for the Rami al-Jamarat ritual, which involves stoning the pillars symbolizing the devil in Mina.
STAYING THE NIGHT:
Pilgrims spend the night in Muzdalifah, except for the area of Wadi Muhassar.
DHIKR AND SUPPLICATIONS:
Pilgrims engage in dhikr (remembrance of God), supplications, and takbir at Al-Mash’ar Al-Haram, a designated area within Muzdalifah.
MOVING TO MINA:
After the dawn prayer, pilgrims proceed to Mina, where they will perform the stoning ritual.

WADI MUHASSIR:
The pilgrim is recommended to hasten his steps over a distance of some 50 meters as the Prophet (SAW) did upon reaching Batn Muhassir, which is part of Mina.
