2027: Okun People Seek Fair Share of Power in Kogi State – Prince Olusola Akanmode
The Okun people of Kogi State are calling for a fair share of power, citing their significant contributions to the state’s development.
In an interview at the sidelines of a Stakeholders Summit organized by the Okun Development Association (ODA), Prince Olusola Akanmode emphasized that the group’s quest for leadership is not about entitlement, but about justice, equity, and harmony.
He said the Okun people feel marginalized and excluded from key positions, despite having advanced intellects in the state. “Our people have some of the most advanced intellects in the state… We believe you cannot put such a group down continuously,” he said.
Prince Akanmode stated that the group’s target for leadership isn’t tied to a specific year; they’ve been seeking it since 1999. “We wanted it in 1999, 2003, 2007… It’s not about time; we always felt we qualify,” he said.
He urged Okun people to unite and strategize, noting that “power isn’t served on a platter.”
He called for transparent leadership and fair distribution of democracy’s benefits, lamenting that politics often fractures society.
“Not many politicians focus on the common good,” he said, advocating for a more dynamic leadership approach.
