The South-South geopolitical zone has been challenged to rise above political divisions and forge a common front behind High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, as the region intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The call was made by the Amnesty Delegates Forum, which urged political leaders across the region to support the PBAT Door-to-Door Campaign Organisation and mobilise voters for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a politically forceful statement, the group said the South-South could only secure greater political relevance by presenting a united front and working collectively around issues that directly affect the region.

The forum insisted that the mobilisation effort should transcend political party, ethnic and religious boundaries, arguing that the overriding objective should be the protection and advancement of the interests of the South-South.

The group described Tompolo as a major political factor with extensive grassroots influence, stressing that his leadership could provide the coordination required to galvanize political support throughout the region.

It declared that South-South leaders must seize the opportunity to demonstrate their political strength rather than allow divisions to weaken the region’s voice in national affairs.

The forum identified security, infrastructure development, political appointments, employment and empowerment of youths and women as some of the critical areas in which it expects the region to pursue stronger representation and attention.

It said a well-coordinated grassroots mobilisation structure under Tompolo could help connect political leaders with communities and voters across the South-South.

The group consequently appealed to political leaders at all levels to throw their weight behind the initiative and work toward building what it described as a formidable political movement ahead of the 2027 poll.

It warned that continued division among political actors would diminish the region’s influence, while unity could strengthen its negotiating position at the national level.

“United we stand, divided we fall,” the forum declared, calling on South-South stakeholders to close ranks and mobilise massively for Tinubu’s re-election.

The group urged its members and supporters to commence aggressive grassroots engagement across communities in the region as preparations intensify for the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
