KANO — The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State executive committee and inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party pending the conduct of fresh state congresses and the election of a new leadership.
The decision was announced on Monday in Kano by the Deputy National Chairperson of the ADC for the North-West Zone, Hajiya Najaatu Muhammad, during a press briefing attended by party stakeholders and members.
According to Najaatu, the dissolution was carried out in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution and was intended to strengthen the party’s internal structure rather than favour any individual or political group.
She explained that the caretaker committee would be responsible for coordinating the party’s activities across Kano State, maintaining unity among members, and preparing the ground for a transparent and credible process that will usher in a substantive state executive.
“The action is neither punitive nor targeted at any person or faction,” she said. “It is a constitutional measure aimed at restoring administrative balance, ensuring continuity in the party’s operations, and addressing the leadership vacuum that emerged in the state.”
Najaatu stressed that the national leadership remains committed to internal democracy, transparency, and adherence to the party’s constitution, adding that the caretaker committee has been mandated to work closely with stakeholders at all levels to reposition the party ahead of future political engagements.
She commended members of the ADC in Kano for their resilience, loyalty, and contributions to the growth of the party despite the challenges encountered over the years.
“The national leadership deeply appreciates the commitment, sacrifices, and steadfastness of our members in Kano. Their dedication has played a significant role in strengthening the party, and we urge them to continue supporting the caretaker committee as it carries out its assignment,” she said.
Political observers believe the move forms part of broader efforts by the party’s national leadership to consolidate its structures across the country and resolve internal organisational issues ahead of upcoming political activities.
Party officials expressed confidence that the caretaker committee would foster reconciliation, promote unity among members, and create a conducive atmosphere for the emergence of a new leadership through a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
