By Peter Azi – Jos
The entire Afizere nation, led by His Royal Highness, Rev. Dr. Isaac Azi Wikili, the Agbang Agwom Afizere, joined other traditional rulers and sympathisers at the final interment of the Acting District Head of Fobur, Late Adagwom Izang Abok, who passed away after a brief illness.
The late monarch was buried at his palace in New Fobur according to Afizere burial rites and traditions.
Prior to the interment, the Afizere royal dancers, known as _Agba_, moved round the vicinity in search of the monarch, in line with the tradition of the Afizere people who attach great value and reverence to their traditional rulers.
The regalia of the late chief were later displayed on the roof of his palace alongside his royal cap to signify his demise, and other rituals were subsequently observed. These included the slaughtering of a goat, after which his body was committed to mother earth amid numerous sympathisers from all walks of life.
Among those present were the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Isa Madaki Ajiji; Hon. Markus Nyam, Executive Chairman of Jos East Local Government Council, his Secretary, and the Leader of the Legislative Arm; former Secretary to the Government of the State, Professor Danladi Abok Atu, Senatorial Aspirant for Plateau North; and Hon. Joseph Azi, also a Senatorial Aspirant for Plateau North.
Others in attendance included Ambassador Ibrahim Pada Kassai, former Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine; members of the Afizere Elders Council; Adagwom Jos Izere Chiefdom; Hon. Engineer Arum Ajiji, a philanthropist and House of Representatives Aspirant for Jos East/South Federal Constituency; as well as youths, women, and other sympathisers.
In his message, HRH Agbang Agwom Afizere charged all politicians, particularly those from the Afizere nation, to stop backbiting, pull-down syndrome, and sabotaging one another. He urged them instead to work as a team and be their brother’s keeper.
According to him, the late Acting District Head was a brave and courageous ex-serviceman who served in both the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Army. He also worked tirelessly for the unity of not only Fobur District but the entire Afizere nation.
He called on all citizens to remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious movements to security personnel.
