APC’s Durosinmi Meseko Calls for National Unity as Ramadan and Lent Converge
In a rare alignment of the spiritual calendar, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, has issued a stirring call for national rebirth and interfaith solidarity as both Muslim and Christian faithful commence their fasting periods simultaneously.
With the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent overlapping this year, Meseko described the coincidence as a “divine signal” for Nigerians to pursue peace and collective healing.
In a statement released to the press, Hon. Meseko highlighted the significance of both faiths beginning their fasts on the same day, noting that such an occurrence serves as a powerful reminder of the shared values that bind the nation together.
“The fact that our Muslim brothers and sisters and our Christian compatriots are embarking on this spiritual journey at the same time is not a mere accident,” Meseko stated. “It is a divine call for us to stand in the gap for our nation with one voice and one heart.”
Meseko urged Nigerians to use this period to pray specifically for the country’s security, economic stability, and the success of ongoing reforms.
Sacrifice and Reflection: He called on citizens to emulate the virtues of self-denial, piety, and love that define both fasting seasons.
The APC chieftain emphasized that the dual fasting period should act as a bridge-builder, fostering deeper understanding between different religious groups.
While focusing on the spiritual, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary also touched on the socio-political climate, asking Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the government’s efforts.
He expressed optimism that the “spiritual energy” generated during this period would translate into a more patriotic and resilient citizenry.
“As we abstain from worldly pleasures to seek the face of the Almighty, let us also fast from bitterness and divisive rhetoric,” he added. “This is the time to sow seeds of hope for a prosperous Nigeria.” He concluded.
