The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani Omolori Aliyu, has announced the deployment of massive joint security personnel to communities in Alkaleri Local Government Area following a recent security breach in Mansur village.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Bauchi, the Commissioner, through the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, said the decisive action was taken to restore calm and reinforce public confidence after reported cases of banditry and kidnapping activities in parts of the area.
According to the CP, the deployment became necessary in response to renewed threats linked to criminal elements believed to have infiltrated Bauchi State from neighboring states. He noted that the affected communities in Alkaleri, particularly Mansur and its environs, share borders with volatile areas that have experienced persistent security challenges in recent years.
“We have reinforced our presence with a combined team of police tactical units, military personnel, and other security agencies. The situation is firmly under control,” he assured.
Coordinated Security Strategy.
The Commissioner disclosed that the operation involves collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups. He added that enhanced weaponry, surveillance mechanisms, and rapid response teams have been strategically positioned across flashpoints in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Security analysts describe Alkaleri as a critical frontier LGA in southern Bauchi due to its vast forest reserves and proximity to interstate boundaries, which have occasionally been exploited by criminal networks. In recent years, banditry and kidnapping for ransom have emerged as serious threats across parts of the North-East and North-West regions, prompting states to adopt joint security frameworks and community-based intelligence models.
CP Aliyu emphasized that the present deployment is intelligence-driven and part of a broader proactive security architecture aimed at preventing further incursions.
The Police Command acknowledged the logistical and operational support of the Bauchi State Government in strengthening security operations. The Commissioner commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration for its sustained investment in security infrastructure, patrol vehicles, and communication equipment.
He stressed that while security agencies are intensifying operations, community participation remains indispensable in combating crime.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We urge residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with law enforcement, and promptly report suspicious movements or unfamiliar individuals within their communities. We guarantee confidentiality and protection for those who provide credible information,” the Commissioner stated.
Local community leaders in Mansur and surrounding settlements have reportedly welcomed the deployment, expressing relief over the visible presence of armed security patrols and checkpoints along major access routes.
Despite recent incidents in neighboring Gwana district, the Command reassured residents that there is no cause for panic. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, normalcy is gradually returning as farmers, traders, and transporters resume their daily activities under the watch of reinforced security patrols.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging citizens to go about their lawful businesses without fear.
Observers note that sustained surveillance, community trust-building, and inter-agency synergy will be crucial in ensuring that the gains recorded in Alkaleri are maintained and extended to other vulnerable areas.
As security forces continue round-the-clock operations, residents remain hopeful that the renewed crackdown will not only suppress immediate threats but also dismantle criminal networks operating along the state’s borders.
For now, the message from the Bauchi State Police Command is clear: law enforcement is on ground, alert, and fully prepared to confront any attempt to destabilize the peace of Alkaleri and its neighboring communities.
