The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, is set to distribute ₦130 million in financial assistance to 1,300 women across the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District as part of an initiative aimed at supporting women and strengthening economic empowerment at the grassroots.
Under the programme, each beneficiary will receive ₦100,000, with 100 women selected from each of the 13 local government areas to benefit from the intervention.
The initiative reflects an effort to provide direct financial support to women and expand access to resources that can help them improve their livelihoods, support their families and pursue small-scale economic activities.
According to a statement issued on October 27, 2026, by Hon. Shitu Madaki Kunchi, Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations to the Deputy President of the Senate, the distribution exercise is scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
The programme will cover all 13 local government areas in Kano North Senatorial District, ensuring that each area has an equal allocation of 100 beneficiaries. The total financial commitment of ₦130 million represents a substantial intervention targeted at women across the district.
Women play a significant role in household management, local commerce, agriculture, food processing and other small-scale economic activities. Financial assistance of this nature can help beneficiaries meet pressing household needs, acquire goods for trading, expand existing businesses or invest in income-generating ventures.
Beyond the immediate financial relief, the initiative is expected to provide beneficiaries with additional resources to strengthen their economic participation and contribute to the welfare of their families and communities.
The statement called on local government chairmen, community leaders, committee members, special assistants and other relevant stakeholders serving in the local government areas to cooperate with the organisers to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the programme.
The stakeholders were also urged to communicate the details of the exercise to their respective communities and mobilise the relevant participants to facilitate an orderly process.
The organisers emphasised the importance of cooperation among political leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders in ensuring that the programme achieves its intended purpose.
The distribution is part of Senator Barau’s wider public engagement and empowerment efforts in Kano North, where interventions targeting vulnerable groups and community development remain important issues for constituents.
For the programme to deliver lasting benefits, transparent beneficiary selection, effective coordination and appropriate monitoring will be essential to ensure that the assistance reaches the intended recipients and contributes meaningfully to their economic well-being.
With 1,300 women expected to benefit, the initiative represents a direct financial intervention across all 13 local government areas of Kano North, with each beneficiary scheduled to receive ₦100,000.
The exercise is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 30, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., according to the statement issued by the Deputy President of the Senate’s media office.
