DG Okun League of Progressive Elites Dissociates Self from Senator Karimi’s Utterances
The Director-General of the Okun League of Progressive Elites has dissociated Okun and Kogi West from the utterances of Senator Sunday Karimi at the last Kabba Day celebration. In a statement, the DG described Senator Karimi’s promotion of ethnic politics as dangerous to the peaceful political relationship enjoyed in the state.
“All these political and ethnic head-on collisions should have been a thing of the past. We have enough insecurity challenges on our hands without Senator Karimi igniting ethnic and political crisis, which could be detrimental to the peace of the state,” the statement read.
The DG noted that anyone interested in contesting for governor should declare their intention, as it is their constitutional right. The statement also highlighted the incumbent governor’s right to seek re-election, just like Senator Karimi’s own bid for a second term.
The DG urged Senator Karimi to refrain from making statements that could generate tension and political war in the state. “Taking power by force in alliance with an ethnic group is a dangerous political mission that should be discouraged before it generates tension and political war in the state,” the statement warned.
The DG dissociated Senator Karimi’s statement from representing the opinion of Okun or Kogi West, describing it as his personal opinion. The statement concluded by urging Senator Karimi to call for a town hall meeting to chart a way forward collectively.
“A good representative should be more concerned with attracting dividends of democracy for his people rather than fighting the government for power,” the DG added.
