Federal Fire Service to Expand Services, Improve Emergency Response – CG Olumode
Abuja – The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, CG Adeyemi Samuel Olumode, has revealed plans to expand the service’s mandate and improve emergency response in Nigeria.
In an exclusive interview, with the Publisher , Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Olugbemi Femi, the Controller General Olumode outlined key initiatives aimed at enhancing the service’s capabilities and saving lives.
According to him, the Federal Fire Service will introduce emergency medical services, allowing citizens to call on the service for medical emergencies beyond firefighting.
“I don’t want fire service to be seen as firefighting alone,” he said.
He said the service has already made significant strides, including promoting 2,263 staff, refurbishing 40 firefighting trucks, and partnering with organizations like Tony Elumelu Foundation and TET Fund.
Olumode also announced plans to establish fire posts in all tertiary institutions and acquire a new corporate headquarters.
He also noted that plans are ongoing to expand the coverage of Federal Fire Service operations to all 109 senatorial districts to enhance safety across the country.
He said that the Federal Fire Service Act is being revised to generate revenue and create employment opportunities.
These initiatives aim to improve response times and save lives across Nigeria.
