FG Approves N712 Billion for the rehabilitation of Muritala Mohammed Airport – Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo
The Federal Government has greenlit a massive N712.26 billion project for the comprehensive renovation and modernization of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
According to the Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister, Barrister Festus Keyamo, the monumental investment is aim to transform the airport into a world-class facility, boosting Nigeria’s aviation sector and economy.
He said the project involves stripping down the existing terminal to its structural core and rebuilding it with state-of-the-art mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

He further revealed that China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has been awarded the contract, bringing their expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects.
The minister said the international terminal will undergo a complete transformation, featuring modern facilities and amenities, stressing that the project includes the construction of new aprons, access roads, bridges, and related infrastructure to enhance airport capacity.
“A N49.9 billion perimeter fencing project will be implemented, featuring advanced security features like intrusion detection systems and CCTV cameras.”
He also noted that other airports, including Kano and Port Harcourt, will also benefit from runway and taxiway rehabilitation projects, with upgrades to Category II airfield lighting standards.
This massive investment marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the travel experience.
The project is expected to boost economic growth, increase air traffic, and position Lagos as a major aviation hub in West Africa.
