Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, today received in audience a delegation of Defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Block State Chairmen at his home office in Abuja.
The visit, marked by camaraderie and solidarity, was undertaken by the delegation to commiserate with Malami over the violent attack on his convoy in Birnin Kebbi on September 1, 2025, an incident that occurred while he was returning from a series of condolence visits in Kebbi State.
During the meeting, the visiting delegation expressed deep concern and condemnation of the attack, offering prayers for Malami’s continued safety and wellbeing. The former state chairmen, who played significant roles in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) through the CPC merger, reaffirmed their unwavering support and solidarity with the senior advocate, describing the attack as “an unfortunate attempt to intimidate a symbol of justice and democratic integrity.”
In his response, Abubakar Malami, SAN, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the visit, noting that the show of support in these trying times was deeply meaningful to him and his family.
“I deeply appreciate your solidarity, your prayers, and your kind words of encouragement. Your presence here reminds me of the strong bonds we built in the CPC era—bonds rooted in patriotism, sacrifice, and the pursuit of justice for all,” Malami said.
He further informed the delegation that the incident had been duly reported to the appropriate security agencies, who are already investigating the matter. He assured his visitors that he remains unshaken in his resolve to uphold peace, justice, and the rule of law, regardless of intimidation or violence.
“I have full confidence in the ability of the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, we must continue to promote peace and unity. Violence has no place in our democracy,” he stated.
Malami used the occasion to reflect on the ideals that brought the CPC leaders together before the party’s historic merger into the APC in 2013. He called on them to continue upholding the principles of good governance, internal democracy, and citizen engagement.
The former CPC block leaders hailed Malami for his courage, statesmanship, and lifelong dedication to legal reform and national development, noting that his legacy in public service continues to inspire a new generation of leaders.
The visit concluded with prayers for peace in Kebbi State and across Nigeria, as well as for the continued safety and wellbeing of Malami and all those working for a just and equitable society.
Abubakar Malami, SAN, served as Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General from 2015 to 2023. Known for his pivotal role in legal reform, anti-corruption initiatives, and high-profile constitutional matters, Malami has remained a key political figure, particularly in northern Nigeria. The recent attack on his convoy has raised concerns about political violence and the safety of public figures engaged in grassroots and humanitarian outreach.
