KANO, Nigeria – The Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday, 18th May, 2025, attended the commissioning and inaugural Jumu’a prayer at the newly constructed Friday Mosque in Agalawa community, Garun Malam Local Government Area.
The Governor, accompanied by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, formally inaugurated the mosque and blessed the appointments of Malam Musa Ilyas as Chief Imam and Malam Lami Ilyas as his Deputy.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, it was noted that the event drew dignitaries from across the state, including commissioners, special advisers, and senior aides to the Governor.
The inaugural Jumu’a prayer was led by renowned Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of Alfurqan Mosque in Kano, Dr. Bashir Umar. In his sermon, the Imam emphasized the spiritual rewards of mosque-building, quoting the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that “whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”
Following the prayers, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his entourage proceeded to pay condolence visits to three bereaved families in different parts of Kano metropolis.
Among those visited was the family of late Justice Wada Umar Rano, a retired High Court Judge, whose service to justice and law left a lasting legacy in the state. The Governor also visited the family of Alh. Muhammadu Na Lado Fage in Kwalli Quarters and the home of his late Personal Assistant on Youth and Sports, Abdullahi Salisu Furfura, in Giginyu.
The Governor expressed heartfelt sympathy during the visits and prayed for the eternal repose of the departed souls. Particularly emotional was his visit to the home of his late aide, Abdullahi Salisu Furfura, who passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of the same day. Governor Yusuf described him as “young, energetic, and deeply committed to the development of Kano youth,” adding that his death was a profound loss to the administration and the state.
Prayers were offered at all locations, seeking Allah’s mercy and eternal peace for the deceased, and for the strength and fortitude for their families to bear the loss.
This solemn and spiritual day reflected both the Governor’s commitment to uplifting religious infrastructure and his compassion in standing with citizens during times of grief.
