Governor Oborevwori: Doing Well on the Canon of the MORE Agenda

Penultimate April 29, 2025, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, will complete two years in office. This upcoming second anniversary presents a fitting opportunity to assess his performance and reflect on the impact of his administration. In this piece, titled “Governor Oborevwori: Doing Well on the Canon of the MORE Agenda,” I explore how he has steadily translated campaign promises into visible progress.

Since assuming office, Governor Oborevwori—contrary to early public skepticism— showed unwavering dedication to the implementation of his MORE Agenda, a robust governance blueprint built around Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. Over the past 24 months, his administration has recorded impressive achievements across various sectors, affirming his commitment to inclusive governance, economic advancement, and infrastructural renewal in Delta State.

One of the most impactful areas of Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been infrastructure. Under the Visionary leadership of His Excellency,, the state has embarked on an ambitious road construction and rehabilitation drive. Key projects include:

Construction of multi-lane dual carriageways across major urban centers to ease traffic congestion and enhance commercial mobility.

Rehabilitation of rural and urban roads, providing neglected communities with all-weather access that boosts trade and connectivity.

Implementation of the Warri/Effurun Stormwater Drainage Project, designed to address perennial flooding in Delta’s economic nerve centers.

Expansion and modernization of Asaba International Airport, positioning it as a thriving regional aviation hub.
The Oborevwori administration which is a Work in Progress has made notable advancement in job creation and wealth generation through strategic interventions in agriculture, commerce, and industry even though there is room to do MORE.

Delta State Investment and Industrialization Drive, which has attracted partnerships in oil and gas, solid minerals, and agro-processing, leveraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to spur economic diversification.

Education and Human Capital Development: Building for the Future
Governor Oborevwori understands that education is the bedrock of development. His administration has prioritized human capital development by:

Investing in school infrastructure, with extensive renovation of primary and secondary schools, and the provision of modern learning facilities.

Expanding vocational and technical education, equipping youths with practical skills for entrepreneurship and the modern workforce.

Enhancing tertiary education, through increased funding and infrastructural upgrades at Delta State University (DELSU), the University of Delta (UNIDEL), and theWestern Delta University Ozoro and Orerokpe Campus

Healthcare: Strengthening the State’s Medical Infrastructure
In the health sector, the Governor has made commendable progress:

Delta State Health Contributory Insurance Scheme, expanding access to affordable healthcare, .

Renovation and equipping of hospitals and primary healthcare centers, improving service delivery and patient outcomes.

Specialized medical outreach programs, offering free maternal and child healthcare, especially in rural communities.

Security and Peacebuilding: Promoting Stability for Sustainable Development
Despite national security challenges, Delta State has remained largely stable under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership. His strategy includes:

Strengthened partnerships with security agencies—the Army, Navy, DSS, and Police—for rapid response to threats.

Community engagement with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and ex-agitators, especially in the Niger Delta, fostering peace and reconciliation.

Investment in community policing and digital surveillance systems, enhancing intelligence gathering and crime prevention.

Social Welfare and Community Development: Putting People First
The Governor has continued to show that governance must touch lives directly. Key interventions include:

Youth and women empowerment programs, offering seed capital, vocational training, and business startup kits is a very good policy of this administration even though we have some areas to rejig in the implementation because of some politicians who compromise the Process.

Support for flood-prone communities, through the provision of relief materials and temporary shelter for displaced persons.

Conclusion:
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has demonstrated leadership defined by vision, action, and compassion. As he marks two years in office, it is evident that he is not just fulfilling his campaign promises but laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth, social equity, and economic transformation in Delta State. His MORE Agenda is not only a blueprint
but a legacy of impact and transformation— a living reality in the lives of Deltans.
