Governor Ododo Continues Commitment to Water Development with New Drilling Machine for RUWASSA

By Abah Benjamin Eneojoh
May 3, 2025
Lokoja, Kogi State.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has further demonstrated his administration’s dedication to improving access to clean water by donating a multimillion-naira water drilling machine to the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA). This initiative aims to boost water supply across communities in the state, particularly in rural areas where access to potable water is often limited.

The commissioning of the drilling machine, which took place in Lokoja on May 1, 2025, was attended by key stakeholders, including the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Comfort Nwuchola Egwuaba, who represented the Governor. Hon. Egwuaba emphasized the administration’s commitment to ending water scarcity in the state, emphasizing Governor Ododo’s resolve to address this critical issue.

In his remarks, Governor Ododo urged the management of RUWASSA to ensure the proper maintenance of the drilling equipment and other water facilities to maximize the impact of the initiative. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to providing the people of Kogi State with access to clean and potable water.

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya Farouk, highlighted the Governor’s efforts since assuming office to revive water supply in the state. He noted that the ministry has achieved significant progress in supplying potable water to residents of Lokoja through a well-designed ration system. Engr. Farouk also assured the public that more improvements in water supply are forthcoming.

The General Manager of RUWASSA, Hon. Ahovi Salami Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s gesture, describing it as a crucial step toward alleviating the suffering of people in rural areas. He pledged that the agency would complement the government’s efforts by working to ensure that every community across the state’s three senatorial districts has access to clean water.

This donation of the water drilling machine is part of Governor Ododo’s broader vision for Kogi State, where citizens enjoy access to essential services, including clean water.

Governor Ododo’s commitment to water development is not limited to this recent donation. His administration has been actively engaged in various water projects aimed at improving the lives of Kogi State residents. One notable example is the borehole dug at the camp of flood internally displaced people in Adankolo, Lokoja. This initiative provided a reliable source of clean water for the displaced persons, significantly improving their living conditions during a challenging period.

Additionally, the Governor’s administration has undertaken the repair of the Lokoja waterworks, enhancing the water supply system in the state capital and ensuring that more residents have access to clean water. These projects demonstrate Governor Ododo’s dedication to addressing the basic needs of his people and improving their health, well-being, and economic prospects.

By investing in water infrastructure, Governor Ododo’s administration is making significant strides in providing Kogi State residents with access to clean and potable water. As these projects continue to unfold, it’s clear that his administration prioritizes initiatives that directly impact the quality of life for the people.
