Group Alleges Forgery in Kogi West APC Senate Primary, Demands Police Probe, gives the party 48hours to respond
The Tinubu-Karimi Beyond 2027 Political Movement has alleged forgery of the All Progressives Congress Kogi West Senatorial District primary election results and called for immediate police investigation and prosecution of those involved.
The group made the allegation on Sunday at a world press conference in Kabba, headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial District. Leaders of the movement, in conjunction with concerned APC stakeholders, said they gathered to address what they called “a matter of urgent public importance.”
According to the communique, the group expressed concern over “undemocratic tendencies and clandestine plots to subvert the will of the people” through alleged forged primary results aimed at imposing an unpopular candidate.
After reviewing the disputed results sheet, the group said forgery constitutes a criminal violation of the Constitution and the Electoral Act, which it noted carries a 15-year jail term. It also accused the Kogi State APC leadership of attempting to foist a “consensus” candidate after what it described as a free, fair, and transparent primary that produced Senator Steve Karimi as winner.
Key resolutions issued by the group include:
1. Police Investigation: The group called on the police to commence immediate investigation, arrest, and prosecution of all persons involved in the alleged forgery. It likened the incident to past forgery of fuel subsidy documents, saying the perpetrators should not “get away with it” this time.
2. Rejection of Imposed Candidate: The movement totally rejected any attempt to impose a candidate on the party and demanded that the national and state APC leadership issue a Certificate of Return to Senator Steve Karimi as the authentic winner of the Kogi West Senatorial District primary.
3. 48-Hour Ultimatum: The group gave the party leadership 48 hours to publicly dissociate itself from the alleged forged results.
The group said it remains committed to the growth, stability, and victory of the APC in the upcoming elections, but will not “stand idly by and watch a few individuals mortgage the collective mandate of Senator Steve Karimi.” It urged supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and resolute in defending internal democracy.
The APC Kogi State leadership has not issued an official response to the allegations as of press time.
