GYB APPROVES THE PURCHASE OF BUS FOR NUJ KOGI STATE COUNCIL.
The Governor of Kogi State, AlhajiYahaya Bello (CON) has approved the purchase of a bus for the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council.
He has also magnanimously approved fees for ten (10) journalists to study at the International Institute of Journalists.
These statements were made in his speech during the NUJ Press Week/Book Launch held in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The Executive Governor of Kogi State, who was ably represented by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo commended the Kogi State Journalists for their adequate supports especially during the turbulent periods in the lower tribunal even up to the Supreme Court.
He commended the journalists for practicing citizenry journalism, that ensured their reportage has to do with the development of the state, the security of the state and the unity of the state.
Speaking further he thanked them for standing firm to defend what is true, to defend what is professional and to defend Kogi State.
He congratulated the Union for another historical successful Press Week as this has been a ritual since the inception of the administration of the best chairman of NUJ in the history of the state, Alh. Momoh Jimoh, commending him for making it a point of duty to fight for the welfare of the journalists and also ensure that journalism is not antagonism to the state government.
He added that the present administration has done so well in so many areas which include ensuring that the Media Institutions in the state are in top notch, pointing out that The Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation now has two transmitters that are of the best standard in the country.
Hon. Fanwo added that a modern technology has been introduced to the Graphic Newspaper as the media house now has an e-graphic newspaper that now makes it easier for someone in Germany, USA and other countries in the Diaspora to gain direct and full access to the news.
He urged all the journalists in the state to uphold the principles of professionalism and ensure that the 2023 Gubernatorial Elections are peaceful as they have roles to play as professionals and should not be allowed to be intimidated by anyone, but always stand for the truth.
In a statement earlier, the national chairman of NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo urged the journalists to report accurately, fairly and fearlessly as the state enters a new transition in few months.
Highlights of the programme were Merit Awards conferred on eminent citizens for distinguished services and the launching of a book titled, “Media Development in Kogi State – 1991 to 2023” written by the state NUJ Chairman Alh. Adeiza Momohjimoh.
