HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STEEL DEVELOPMENT, PRINCE SHUAIBU ABUBAKAR AUDU, IN THE PAST 15 MONTHS SINCE ASSUMING OFFICE ON 21 AUGUST 2023

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF STEEL DEVELOPMENT, PRINCE SHUAIBU ABUBAKAR AUDU, IN THE PAST 15 MONTHS SINCE ASSUMING OFFICE ON 21 AUGUST 2023:

· Signing of the MoU between the FGN and the original builders of Ajaokuta, Messrs TPE of Russia and their partners in September 2024 for the rehabilitation, completion, and operation of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant and NIOMCO.

· Following Mr. President’s visit to New Delhi, India, in September 2023 for the G20 Summit, Messrs Jindal Steel committed to setting up a 5 million metric tonnes Steel Plant in Nigeria to the tune of 5 billion dollars, as well as Luan Steel Group of China.

· Partnership with the Ministry of Defence to sign an MoU to commence the production of Military hardwares in Ajaokuta Steel Complex.

· Designing an in-house roadmap for the revitalisation of the steel industry by an in-house technical team to chart the course of the revival of the entire steel sector.

· Encouraging and incorporating private steel players in the revival plans of the FGN with visits to private steel plants.

· Organising a one-month intensive bootcamp programme to train Nigerian artisans.

· Engagement with the National Assembly Committees on Steel Development for the adoption of regulatory frameworks for the entire steel sector.

· Collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation for the adoption of a new organogram for the Ministry.

· A robust retreat for staff of the Ministry to sensitise them on the mandate of the newly established ministry in order for them to align with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for the steel sector.
