Leaders of the various ethnic nationalities within the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas, HOSTCOM, Delta State Chapter, have strongly dissociated themselves from what they described as an illegal and unauthorized Annual General Meeting, AGM, Committee allegedly constituted by a dissident group led by one Mr. Paul Ebiyon at the Ughelli Community Town Hall.
In a strongly worded press statement issued from the HOSTCOM Delta State Secretariat located at No. 11 Uti Street, Off PTI Road, Effurun, the ethnic nationality leaders categorically declared that the so-called AGM Committee lacked legitimacy, legal backing, and official recognition from the duly constituted leadership of HOSTCOM Delta State Chapter.5
The statement was jointly signed by Mr. Andrew Agoyo, Urhobo Ethnic Nationality Chairman; Mr. Kingsley Ikiere, Ijaw Ethnic Nationality Chairman; Comrade Obihia Amechi, Ika Ethnic Nationality Chairman; Mr. Godswill Oruru, Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality Chairman; Mr. Emmanuel Omokero, Isoko Ethnic Nationality Chairman; and Mr. Chris Nwose, Ndokwa Ethnic Nationality Chairman.
The statement emphasized that HOSTCOM Delta State Chapter remains under the recognized leadership of Comrade Chief Sunday Ndidi Enujeke as Chairman and High Comrade Joseph Lamienghan as Secretary, stressing that at no point did the authentic leadership authorize or approve the setting up of any AGM Committee in Ughelli or elsewhere.
According to the statement, the purported committee was merely a creation of “disgruntled elements and troublemakers” allegedly bent on creating confusion and misleading members of the public into believing that there exists a factional leadership structure within HOSTCOM Delta State.
The ethnic nationality leaders further described the actions of the dissident group as an act of impersonation and a calculated attempt to tarnish the integrity, credibility, and hard-earned reputation of HOSTCOM in Delta State.
“The so-called AGM Committee remains null, void, and of no legal effect whatsoever,” the statement declared.
Reaffirming their commitment to the unity and stability of HOSTCOM, the leaders maintained that the organization remains indivisible and focused on advancing the collective interests of oil and gas host communities across Delta State.
In a significant show of solidarity, the ethnic nationality leaders unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Comrade Chief Sunday Ndidi Enujeke and High Comrade Joseph Lamienghan, commending them for what they described as their dedication, visionary leadership, and invaluable contributions toward the growth and stability of HOSTCOM in Delta State.
The statement further urged HOSTCOM members, stakeholders, host communities, and the general public to remain calm, law-abiding, and disregard what it termed false narratives and misinformation allegedly being spread by unauthorized persons seeking to destabilize the organization for clandestine motives.
The leaders disclosed that relevant security and investigative agencies had already been notified of the activities of the dissident group and warned members of the public against dealing with Mr. Paul Ebiyon, whom they accused of illegally parading himself as Acting Chairman of HOSTCOM Delta State Chapter.
The statement also maintained that the dissident group lacked the constitutional and organizational locus standi to constitute any AGM Committee, adding that whenever the time for a legitimate AGM arises, the process would be properly handled by the duly recognized leadership of HOSTCOM Delta State Chapter.
The ethnic nationality leaders reiterated HOSTCOM’s commitment to peace, unity, stability, and the protection of the interests of all host communities across Delta State.
