Ife Development Association Backs Omala Chairman’s Security Order, Urges Stronger Community Policing

The Ife Development Association (IDA), Lokoja Branch, has thrown its weight behind the Executive Chairman of Omala Local Government Council over his recent executive order aimed at tackling rising insecurity in the area.

In a statement jointly signed by the Association’s Chairman, Comrade (Alhaji) Alih Abubakar, and Secretary, Awodi Daniel, and made available to journalists in Lokoja, the group commended the council boss for what it described as “bold and timely steps” to restore peace and stability in Omala Local Government Area.

The association noted that the Chairman’s initiative demonstrates a clear commitment to safeguarding lives and property, especially in communities that have witnessed repeated security challenges.

“We fully support the executive order issued by the Omala Local Government Chairman as it reflects proactive leadership in addressing the disturbing wave of insecurity in the area,” the statement read.

The group also praised the member representing the constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly for backing efforts to strengthen security architecture in the region.

“We commend the Honourable Member of the Kogi State House of Assembly for aligning with this initiative, particularly the plan to establish border security posts at Ajogili in Udaba and Icheke Ogane in Olaedihi,” the statement added.

According to the association, the proposed security posts will help monitor movements across vulnerable border communities and prevent the area from being used as a battleground by militias.

“This measure will go a long way in creating a buffer zone to curb the activities of armed groups and prevent further clashes, especially those linked to conflicts between Agatu militias and Fulani groups,” the statement noted.

The IDA further called on residents, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to support the council’s efforts by embracing community policing and intelligence sharing.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We urge community leaders, youths, and residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid in preventing attacks,” the group stated.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and development, the association emphasized that sustained collaboration between government and the people remains key to achieving lasting security in Omala and its environs.

“We believe that with continued support from all stakeholders, Omala Local Government can overcome its security challenges and return to a path of peace and progress,” the statement concluded.
