KOGI WEST APC TICKET CRISIS: ALMOST 2 MONTHS OF CLAIM, COUNTER-CLAIM ‘EMBARRASSING’ — CHRCR
_Group Calls on ODA, Governor to Intervene Before Situation Degenerates_
The protracted crisis over the rightful APC senatorial candidate for Kogi West Senatorial District has been described as “worrisome, embarrassing and unfortunate.”
The Executive Director of Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, CHRCR, Idris Miliki Abdul, said the claim and counter-claim over who represents the APC for Kogi West has lingered for over almost 2 months without resolution.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Saturday, Miliki Abdul questioned who the actual leader of the APC in the state is, and why the senatorial district has continued to experience such internal disputes.
“The current situation over the rightful candidate for the APC senatorial candidate for Kogi West is worrisome. What is the problem really? That cannot be resolved for the past 2 months,” he said.
“Who is the leader of APC in the state that can resolve this matter of candidate? And why is it always the West? We had similar issues with Dino, now it’s Karimi. It’s unfortunate and embarrassing,” he added.
The rights group noted that the lingering crisis “goes beyond partisan interest and the internal affairs of APC as a political party,” and warned that if not quickly addressed, it could degenerate further.
“We call on Okun Development Association (ODA) and even the governor to resolve this matter as quickly as possible, before it degenerates into something else. Election is a contest that must produce a winner,” Miliki Abdul stated.
He stressed that the continued uncertainty is becoming embarrassing for the party and the district, and urged urgent intervention to restore order and unity within the APC ahead of 2027.
“The claim and counter claim of who is the candidate for APC in Kogi West Senatorial District is becoming embarrassing and needs to be resolved urgently,” he said.
