Leke Abejide Foundation to Release N740m Second Tranche for Community Development
By Samuel Temiloluwa
The Leke Abejide Foundation is set to release another N740 million as the second tranche of its community development support programme for communities across Yagba Federal Constituency.
The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, disclosed this on Thursday at Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, during his homecoming rally organised by the Executive Chairmen of Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopamuro Local Government Areas.
Abejide said the foundation had, in May this year, disbursed N740 million to communities under the first phase of the community development support programme, despite initially budgeting N710 million for the intervention.
According to him, the number of communities benefiting from the programme has increased to 74 communities, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to supporting grassroots development across the constituency.
He explained that a committee set up to oversee the programme had moved around the beneficiary communities to assess the level of utilisation and impact of the funds released during the first tranche.
Abejide said the assessment had become necessary to ensure that the funds were properly utilised for the purposes for which they were provided before the release of the second tranche.
He disclosed that, following the completion of the assessment exercise, the N740 million second tranche would be released to the benefiting communities soon.
The lawmaker said the initiative was designed to complement government efforts in addressing development needs at the grassroots, particularly by empowering communities to identify and execute projects that directly affect their residents.
Speaking further, Abejide said the name of Yagba Federal Constituency had become increasingly prominent across Nigeria as a result of the activities and contributions of its people.
He assured the people of Yagba that he would continue to promote the constituency positively and project its interests at the national level.
He said his representation would remain focused on initiatives capable of bringing tangible benefits to the people and accelerating development across Yagba Federal Constituency.
The homecoming rally attracted a large gathering of supporters, community leaders, political associates, youth and women groups from Yagba West, Yagba East and Mopamuro, who welcomed the lawmaker to the constituency.
