Leke Abejide to Organise Cooperative Societies for Yagba Youths, Announces N500m Take-Off Fund
By Samuel Temiloluwa
The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has announced plans to establish cooperative societies for youths across Yagbaland, with a N500 million take-off fund to support the initiative.
Abejide disclosed this while speaking during his homecoming activities in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, where he outlined plans to promote entrepreneurship and grassroots economic development across the constituency.
According to the lawmaker, the cooperative initiative is designed to provide young people with access to financial support, encourage collective entrepreneurship and create sustainable economic opportunities at the grassroots.
He said beneficiaries of the programme would be drawn from the 74 communities that make up Yagba Federal Constituency, comprising Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Local Government Areas.
Abejide explained that the N500 million would serve as the initial funding for the cooperative societies, with the beneficiaries expected to utilise the opportunity to establish and expand viable businesses and other income-generating ventures.
He said the initiative would also encourage youths to work together, pool resources and develop businesses that could create employment opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of their respective communities.
The lawmaker stressed the importance of youth empowerment as a means of reducing unemployment and promoting self-reliance, particularly in rural communities.
He said the cooperative societies would provide a structured platform through which youths could access support and participate in productive economic activities rather than depending solely on government employment.
Abejide further stated that the programme would be implemented across the 74 communities to ensure broad participation and equitable access to the initiative.
He said further details on the structure of the cooperative societies, eligibility requirements, areas of business focus and modalities for accessing the fund would be made available as preparations for the programme are concluded.
The initiative, according to Abejide, is part of his broader constituency development efforts aimed at strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for young people across Yagba Federal Constituency.
He expressed hope that the cooperative societies would become sustainable platforms capable of supporting businesses, creating jobs and improving the economic wellbeing of youths across Yagbaland.
