Let us make security our priority, Ladoja tells Yoruba Obas
KEHINDE AKINPELU, ILORIN
Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa1), has directed all traditional rulers in Ibadanland to ensure the security of lives and property in Ibadanland in particular and Oyo State at large.
The charge was contained in a press release issued and signed by the Olubadan’s Chief Press Secretary, Chief Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga, on Wednesday.
Olugbemiga said the monarch gave the charge shortly after a meeting between himself and members of Olubadan-in-Council with members of the Association of His Royal Highnesses of Ibadanland on Tuesday at Olubadan Palace Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.
“You were installed as the Royal Highnesses to primarily protect the lives and property of your subjects in your domains.
“Don’t tell me that you don’t know the hideouts of the Fulani herdsmen, land grabbers and other criminals in Ibadanland,’ he said, adding that the aforementioned group of people couldn’t perform their atrocities “without your knowledge and support.”
“We are here to principally discuss the issues of insecurity, sustenance of traditional authority and land grabbing menace that are giving us sleepless nights. I charge you all to give serious attention on how these atrocities can be reduced to the barest minimum, if not totally eradicated, as you will be held responsible for crimes committed by these unscrupulous elements you harbour in your areas of jurisdiction,” Oba Ladoja warned.
The Olubadan admonished the Royal Highnesses to take the messages down to all baales and mogajis in their domains for full implementation
In conclusion, Olubadan frowned at the dilapidated buildings in the urban and rural areas of Ibadanland “where miscreants are using as their abodes” and the ideas of some traditional rulers to abandon their family compounds and settle down at estates or foreign countries.
“This will no longer be tolerated,” he said, adding that they had it as duty to be visiting their family compounds and villages to rebuild them in consonance with the present Olubadan programme of urban renewal.
In his address during the visit, the Chairman of the Association of His Royal Highnesses in Ibadanland, His Royal Highness, Oba Adebowale Kamarudeen Adeyemi, the Oniladuntan of Laduntan, disclosed that they visited Olubadan of Ibadanland to further affirm their solidarity in building new Ibadanland where peace, security, sociocultural and improved economic development would be guaranteed.
His Royal Highness, Oba Adewale Adeyemi pleaded for the involvement of his fellow members in the activities that have to do with the unity and progress of Ibadanland, “as we are your gate keepers and are also here to receive your royal blessings as requested by other Royal Highnesses within and outside Ibadan.”
