Minister Shuaibu Audu to Break Ground for 20-Megawatt Mini-Grid in Egume, Kogi State
The Hon. Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, will on Friday, June 5, 2026, perform the groundbreaking ceremony for a 20-megawatt mini-grid power project in Egume Community, Dekina Local Government Area.
The project is being executed in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, and is expected to boost electricity access for residents and businesses in the community.

According to the special invitation, the minister “cordially requests your presence” at the ceremony scheduled for 9:00am in Egume. “Your esteemed presence will be profoundly appreciated,” the invitation stated.
When completed, the 20MW mini-grid is expected to reduce dependence on the national grid, improve power supply for small and medium enterprises, and drive economic activities in Dekina LGA and surrounding areas. Egume is a major commercial hub in eastern Kogi, but has faced years of erratic electricity.
Prince Audu, who hails from Kogi East, has been pushing for energy and industrial projects in the state since his appointment as Minister of Steel Development.
The REA, under the federal government’s rural electrification programme, has delivered several solar hybrid mini-grids across Nigeria.
Local leaders and stakeholders in Dekina have welcomed the development, saying reliable power will unlock opportunities in agriculture, welding, cold rooms, and other trades.
Community members, government officials, and development partners are expected at the groundbreaking event.
