The Pioneer Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Barr. Cosmas Akighir, has eulogized Simon Shango MFR for his outstanding and multidimensional service to Nigeria and humanity.
Akighir gave the commendation during the presentation and launch of “Thought of A Servant of Humanity”, the autobiography of Simon Shango, held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. The event attracted dignitaries and Nigerians from all walks of life, who poured encomiums and glowing tributes on the seasoned philanthropist, renowned journalist, and selfless politician.
In a message made available to the press at the ceremony, the NCDC boss described Shango as an icon and patriot who has etched his name in the sands of time through remarkable accomplishments across the various fields he ventured into.
Barr. Akighir noted that the autobiographer left an indelible mark as a politician, philanthropist, and journalist, emphasizing that his life embodies patriotism and dedicated service to humanity.
Responding to questions from journalists on whether the current crop of politicians in Benue State and Nigeria at large have demonstrated similar noble qualities, Akighir stated that while it would be unfair to generalize, some politicians have indeed shown statesmanship and patriotism in their service.
He specifically referenced the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, describing his service as exemplary, alongside other sons and daughters of Benue who have contributed meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.
