In a heartwarming New Year message, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Women’s Wing Kano State Chapter, under the dynamic leadership of Ambassador Rotarian Nkeiruka Patience Okereke, has extended its wishes for hope, prosperity, and renewal to Nigerians, the people of Kano State, and the members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Women’s Wing Kano Chapter.
In her written statement, Amb. Nkeiruka Okereke, a symbol of vibrancy and elegance, conveyed heartfelt wishes:
“As the New Year unfolds, may it open doors to new opportunities and close chapters of past struggles. May this year be enlightened with positivity, encouragement, enthusiasm, inspiration, everlasting blessings, endless possibilities, and God’s amazing favor.”
Beyond her uplifting message, Amb. Nkeiruka also addressed a pressing concern affecting the Igbo community in Kano State. She passionately appealed to the Kano State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, to invest in transportation systems between Kano State and the Eastern States.
A Call for Relief in Transportation Costs
Amb. Nkeiruka emphasized that the prohibitive cost of traveling to the Eastern States has placed an undue burden on non-indigenous residents in Kano, particularly during festive seasons. She explained how exorbitant transportation fees hinder families from reuniting during important celebrations:
A single seat on a luxury bus costs ₦60,500.
Loading a bag of rice incurs a fee of ₦20,000.
Even basic luggage like a “Ghana Must Go” bag containing children’s clothes costs ₦15,000.
She highlighted how these financial constraints make it nearly impossible for women to travel with their children or carry essential items, thereby disrupting the joy of celebrating Christmas and New Year with loved ones.
An Appeal to His Excellency
Amb. Nkeiruka urged the Kano State Government to intervene and regulate transportation costs or establish a more affordable transportation scheme. She noted that such an initiative would not only serve as a relief for non-indigenous residents but also generate income for the state government.
“This investment will ease the burden on families, foster unity, and create economic opportunities for all,” she added.
As a trailblazer, Amb. Nkeiruka continues to champion the welfare of the Igbo community in Kano State while fostering unity among all ethnic groups. Her leadership as the Charter President of the Rotary Club of Sabon Gari Kano further exemplifies her dedication to service and community development.
A Vision for Unity and Progress
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Women’s Wing Kano State Chapter, under Amb. Nkeiruka’s guidance, remains committed to advocating for the well-being of its members while promoting harmony and understanding across diverse communities in Kano State and beyond.
May 2025 bring the realization of these hopes and aspirations, not just for the Igbo community but for all Nigerians.
