Okun Filmmakers Forum (OMFF) Unveils “IYA Kogi” — A Landmark Cultural Film Project
The Okun Filmmakers Forum (OMFF) proudly announces the successful private premiere of its groundbreaking maiden production, “IYA Kogi.” This milestone project marks a historic moment for the Okun creative industry—uniting filmmakers across borders to tell a deeply rooted, culturally authentic story that reflects the identity, heritage, and values of the Okun people.
At the helm of this visionary project is the Executive Producer, Princess Enitan Falada, the revered Iyalode of Okun land, whose leadership and cultural commitment shaped the direction and essence of the film. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of storytelling as a tool for cultural preservation and global projection, noting that “IYA Kogi”was conceived to reconnect generations of Okun sons and daughters with their linguistic, moral, and historical roots.
The film features a powerful ensemble of Okun actors drawn from both Nigeria and the diaspora, reflecting a deliberate effort to bridge homegrown talent with international exposure. The story, written by Adebayo Wemimo, is a compelling narrative that captures the emotional depth, societal values, and enduring traditions of the Okun people. Under the skilled direction of Amb Raphael Adeniyi, the production delivers a visually rich and culturally immersive experience, spoken authentically in the Okun dialect.
The private premiere, held in Lagos, was a gathering of distinguished Okun dignitaries, cultural custodians, and industry stakeholders. The event was gracefully chaired by the Screen Goddess, Toyin Oki, whose presence added prestige and inspiration to the occasion.
In attendance was the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Akere Owoniyi, who conveyed heartfelt appreciation and delivered a powerful message on behalf of the royal leadership back home. His address underscored the significance of unity and cultural pride, commending OMFF for taking bold steps to preserve Okun heritage through cinema.
The Chief Launcher, Chief APS Arogundade, arrived with a distinguished entourage and expressed strong support for the initiative. He praised the Forum’s vision and encouraged sustained collaboration and investment in indigenous storytelling, describing the project as “a cultural awakening and a call to creative responsibility.”
“IYA Kogi” stands as the first-of-its-kind collaborative film project where filmmakers across Okun land have united under one vision. Beyond entertainment, the film serves as a cultural archive—projecting the values, language, and identity of the Okun people to a global audience.
This premiere represents not just the unveiling of a film, but the birth of a movement.
The Okun Filmmakers Forum extends deep appreciation to all Okun sons and daughters—home and abroad—whose support, presence, and contributions made this project and its premiere a resounding success. Your collective commitment has demonstrated the power of unity in storytelling and cultural preservation.
As OMFF celebrates this landmark achievement, it reaffirms its dedication to producing more impactful films that will elevate Okun narratives on the global stage.
