PAAU GOVERNING COUNCIL APPROVES PROMOTION OF EIGHT (8) PROFESSORS, SEVENTEEN (17) READERS

…Reaffirms Commitment to Academic Excellence

The Governing Council of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has approved the promotion of eight (8) academic staff to the rank of Professor and seventeen (17) others to the rank of Reader, as part of efforts aimed at strengthening academic excellence, scholarship, and institutional development.

The approvals were part of the far-reaching decisions reached at the 72nd Regular Meeting of the Governing Council, presided over by the Chairman, Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu, held on Friday, 22nd May, 2026, at the University Council Chamber.

Council considered the recommendations of the Appointments and Promotion Committee (A & PC) and approved the promotion of a total of eight (8) academic staff members to the rank of Professor. They include:

1. Dr. Okpe Ameh Alfa (Animal Production),

2. Dr. Onimisi Meriyamoh Mero (Fisheries and Aquaculture),

3. Dr. Okpanachi Martin Abdubala (Animal and Environmental Biology),

4. Dr. Friday John Sale (Pure and Industrial Chemistry),

5. Dr. Saad Murtala (Arabic and Islamic Studies),

6. Dr. Okpanachi Anthony (Philosophy),

7. Dr. Sani Idris Ahmed (Economics), and

8. Dr. Hassan Achimugu (Public Administration).

 

Similarly, seventeen (17) academic staff members were promoted to the rank of Reader (Associate Professor). They are:

1. Dr. Attaugwu Roseline Nwabogo (Food, Nutrition and Home Science),

2. Dr. Amana Gabriel Unekwu (Animal and Environmental Biology),

3. Dr. Ameh E. Mark (Pure and Industrial Chemistry),

4. Dr. Larayetan Rotimi Abisoye (Pure and Industrial Chemistry),

5. Dr. Afere Benson Eniola (Mathematical Sciences),

6. Dr. Abraham Oyguh Joseph (Microbiology),

7. Dr. Yusuf Shrifudeen (Arabic and Islamic Studies),

8. Dr. Obera Joy Aladi (Arts Education – English Language),

9. Dr. Muraina Kamilu Olanrewaju (Educational Foundations),

10. Dr. Emmanuel Friday Titus (Medicinal Chemistry),

11. Dr. (Mrs.) Agbana Olubunmi Funmilayo (Mass Communication),

12. Dr. Aliu Monday (Political Science),

13. Dr. Usman Muhammed (Political Science),

14. Dr. Okeme Ukwumonu Patrick (Public Administration),

15. Dr. Shaibu Joshua Shaka (Social Science Education),

16. Dr. Atoyebi Timothy Abayomi (Sociology), and

17. Dr. Ugwu James Ike (Accounting).

Council noted that the promotions reflected the University’s commitment to rewarding hard work, strengthening research productivity, and sustaining academic excellence within the institution.

The Council also reaffirmed its resolve to continue to support policies and initiatives that would enhance scholarship, staff development, institutional stability, and global academic visibility.

Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the promoted staff and commended them for their dedication, resilience, and contributions to teaching, research, and community service.

He urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining high academic standards, promoting impactful research, and mentoring younger academics within the University system.

The Vice-Chancellor further reiterated Management’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that supports academic growth, professional advancement, and institutional transformation.
